This top healthcare law practice is looking for a barrister or solicitor advocate to handle a busy caseload of inquest matters.
The team advises NHS bodies as well as independent healthcare providers and other public sector organisations, such as prisons, on some of the most complex and sensitive inquest matters in the country.
High-profile jury inquest work
This is an excellent opportunity to build a specialist practice acting for NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations on a broad range of challenging and rewarding work, including:
- Representing clients at healthcare inquests, including in-person jury inquests
- Giving advice to solicitors on case strategy
- Mentoring and team management
- Getting involved in other areas of the wider healthcare practice if desired such as Court of Protection, judicial review, patient complaints and other areas of team’s work if desired.
- The role also offers opportunities to become involved in business development, client training and helping shape new services for one of the firm’s fastest-growing practice areas.
You will have a primarily inquests-focused caseload, including high-profile prison-suicide and inpatient mental-health deaths. Matters commonly involve Article 2 issues, juries and hearings lasting one to two weeks or longer. The firm prefers to retain advocacy in-house rather than instruct external counsel, so you will benefit from a busy caseload of interesting work.
The team is looking for an experienced barrister or solicitor advocate with established advocacy and ideally healthcare-inquest experience. As a guide they are ideally looking for 3 years call / 3 PQE or above
Transferable advocacy background including criminal and public inquiry experience
The team will consider transferable advocacy background eg from CPS / criminal work, public inquiries and lawyers acting for families or individuals.
