Cyber & Technology Insurance Solicitor – Associate / Senior Associate
Bristol | 1-8 PQE | Hybrid working | to £90,000
A leading international law firm is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its expanding Data & Cyber practice in Bristol.
The successful solicitor will become part of a specialist team advising insurers, insured businesses and corporate clients on cyber incidents, insurance coverage, regulatory investigations and technology and data-related claims.
This is a particularly attractive opportunity for a Bristol-based lawyer looking to undertake sophisticated national and international cyber work without relocating to London.
Complex cyber and insurance coverage work
The team supports clients through every stage of a cyber event, from the initial compromise and urgent incident response through to recovery, regulatory engagement, insurance coverage and any resulting disputes or third-party claims.
Your work will include:
- Advising insurers, insureds and brokers on cyber insurance matters
- Interpreting breach response and technology insurance policies
- Analysing coverage positions and preparing coverage correspondence
- Managing complex, high-value and multi-insurer cyber claims
- Advising on ransomware and cyber extortion incidents
- Supporting clients through containment, recovery and remediation
- Handling technology errors and omissions exposures
- Advising on technology and data-related claims
- Managing ICO notifications and regulatory engagement
- Coordinating the response to data subject and third-party claims
- Supporting mediations, ADR, pre-action matters and litigation
The practice is also expanding its work for businesses outside the insurance sector. This includes advising corporate clients on uninsured incidents, pre-breach preparation, communications strategy and remediation alongside technical cyber specialists.
A collaborative role with substantial responsibility
You will work alongside experienced partners and collaborate with insurers, brokers, in-house counsel, CISOs, forensic investigators, incident-response providers and external counsel.
The role offers considerable client exposure from an early stage. At Senior Associate level, you will also take responsibility for leading workstreams, supervising junior lawyers and helping to develop client relationships.
What the firm is looking for
Applications are invited from solicitors with approximately 1-8 years’ PQE who have experience in one or more of the following:
- Cyber incident or breach response
- Cyber and technology insurance
- Insurance coverage and policy disputes
- Technology and data-related claims
- Data protection or cyber regulatory matters
- Commercial dispute resolution involving technology risks
Previous experience of cyber insurance coverage, breach response policies or large and multi-insurer claims would be highly desirable. Candidates from private practice, relevant in-house positions or comparable settings will be considered.
You should possess:
- Strong drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good commercial judgement
- The ability to advise confidently during urgent incidents
- Strong organisational and project-management skills
- The ability to build relationships with clients and specialist advisers
- A collaborative and inclusive approach
- The confidence to manage competing priorities and deadlines
