International Catastrophic Injury / Large Loss EL/PL – Manchester – NQ-2 PQE – to £37,000
INTERNATIONAL CATASTROPHIC INJURY / LARGE LOSS – MANCHESTER
International Catastrophic Injury Associate – A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an NQ-2 PQE solicitor to join a small but growing team. This unit focuses specifically on complex defendant EL/PL work including catastrophic injury / large loss matters arising out of international claims. These claims are both EU and non-EU in nature and are often high profile, sometimes as much as £20m in terms of value. Given the international scope of the team, there are also opportunities to travel and work abroad within the firm’s global network.
- Job Title: Associate
- Location: Manchester
- Salary: £35,000 – £37,000 (scope for increase DOE)
- Reports to: Partner
- Previous Experience: Bright, ambitious solicitors with excellent academics and proven experience of handling and / or assisting on high value claims (either defendant or claimant). Any experience handling complex travel litigation would be useful.
TECHNICAL ROLE DEMANDING APPRECIATION OF BLACK LETTER LAW
The work is all international in nature whether arising out of claims which have taken place inside or outside the EU. This presents its own jurisdictional challenges in terms of conflict of law matters and demands an excellent technical grasp of ‘black letter’ law.
The successful applicant will be part of a small team in Manchester which works closely with other teams in London and globally. The Manchester headcount is due to grow, making it a great time to join. The team is looking for applicants from either a claimant or defendant background with genuine experience of handling or assisting on high value matters especially those with an international element such as travel litigation. Strong academics are essential.
LANGUAGE SKILLS USEFUL
Whilst not crucial, foreign language skills would be beneficial. The ability to communicate clearly and to adapt one’s style is also important as lawyers within the team often have to communicate with clients and third parties whose first language is not English. There are also real opportunities to travel so expect a truly dynamic role which is as exciting as it is rewarding.
