Healthcare Senior Associate / Legal Director – Birmingham or Manchester

Our client, a top-tier law firm renowned for its expertise in healthcare law, is actively recruiting for a Senior Associate or Legal Director. The Partners are looking across their Manchester and Birmingham offices whilst the role also offers hybrid working.
Overview
- Title: Senior Associate or Legal Director
- Location: Birmingham or Manchester
- Contract Type: Permanent
- Salary: Up to £90,000
- Work Pattern: Hybrid working
- Experience Required: 5+ years PQE in healthcare law
- Focus Areas: Regulatory, disciplinary, and inquest work. Ideally, the Partners are looking for candidates with experience of defending criminal proceedings brought against medical professionals, but this is not critical.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will come in at Senior Associate or Legal Director level. This is an excellent opportunity for lawyers with extensive experience defending healthcare professionals and organisations involved in regulatory, inquest, and / or criminal proceedings involving defending healthcare professionals from criminal investigations, gross negligence, and regulatory claims.
The firm have a dedicated team handling the criminal ‘side’ to these matters to candidates with on healthcare regulatory or inquest experience are also welcome to apply.
Snapshot of the role
- Defend healthcare professionals in criminal and regulatory proceedings, including gross negligence manslaughter, neglect, and fraud cases related to the NHS.
- Represent clients in cases involving statutory regulators such as the GMC/MPTS, GDC, GOC, GPhC, NMC, and HCPC.
- Advise on disciplinary proceedings with NHS Trusts and NHS England.
- Manage inquests, Care Quality Commission (CQC) proceedings, data disputes, and public inquiries.
- Handle patient complaints, Serious Untoward Incidents (SUI), and Ombudsman investigations.
Requirements
- 5 PQE + in healthcare law from a recognized national law firm.
- Expertise in regulatory, disciplinary, and inquest law.
- Previous experience representing healthcare professionals in criminal proceedings is highly desirable, but not critical.
